The Ghana Badminton project involved the end-to-end design and development of a responsive digital platform for the nation's official governing body, transforming their online presence from a basic informational site into a fully functional sports management ecosystem capable of serving athletes, clubs, officials, and fans in one place. Every touchpoint, from the moment a visitor lands on the homepage through the process of applying for a tournament sanction or renewing a membership, was rebuilt around a modern, mobile-responsive foundation designed to represent the national federation with the authority and polish expected of an official governing body.
Using a heavily customized Elementor Pro architecture, the 50+ page site integrates complex features like advanced membership infrastructure, an interactive Club Finder, multi-step application forms, a tournament calendar, and a filterable national Player Rankings system, each engineered to replace what had previously been manual, paper-based, or spreadsheet-driven processes.

The Issue At Hand
Ghana Badminton required a full sports management ecosystem—covering onboarding, event sanctioning, rankings, and club discovery—to modernize their 50-60 page digital footprint. As the sport grew, the federation's legacy setup fell behind, failing to serve their stakeholders effectively.
The existing reliance on manual, paper-based processes and unstructured spreadsheets created significant administrative bottlenecks. This forced staff to handle repetitive tasks that should have been self-service, while prospective members lacked a clear online path to get involved.
Athlete onboarding and membership renewal were fragmented, with no unified subscription pathway connecting individual members and affiliated clubs into a single system
Event sanctioning was manual and paper-based, with no way to handle document uploads, event classification, or compliance checks online, leaving organizers dependent on physical paperwork
Player rankings lived in unstructured spreadsheets with no filtering, search, or age-category segmentation, making it difficult for players, coaches, and fans to find accurate standings
There was no way for fans or athletes to visually locate nearby affiliated clubs or venues, leaving newcomers to rely on word of mouth to find a place to play
Event tracking was scattered across the site with no chronological, filterable calendar to give players and fans a clear view of upcoming tournaments and championships
Standard 'pure sports' theme capabilities lacked the structural support needed for regional badminton-specific requirements, forcing significant customization rather than simple configuration
A 50-60 page site needed to stay fast and reliable despite carrying heavy dynamic data and media across membership, rankings, and event content

Before writing any code, deep analysis was conducted to solve the project's most technically demanding components around forms, data, and theme limitations, ensuring the architecture chosen upfront wouldn't need to be reworked once development was underway. This research phase shaped every major technical decision that followed, from which plugins to use to how the data itself should be structured.
Key Activities
Multi-Step Form Architecture
Discovered that standard WordPress form plugins couldn't handle the validation, multi-file uploads, and conditional routing required for state-level tournament sanctioning, leading to a hybrid HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and PHP/AJAX approach built specifically for this workflow. This custom approach gave the form the flexibility to branch logically based on event type while still processing securely on the back end.
Scalable Ranking Dataset Strategy
Analyzed how to keep ranking tables fast and responsive for hundreds of athlete records, leading to pairing TablePress with the DataTables jQuery library to handle browser-side sorting, pagination, and search without taxing the server. This combination meant the rankings could scale as the federation's membership grew, without a rebuild down the line.
Theme vs. Requirements Gap Analysis
Evaluated the capabilities of standard 'pure sports' themes and discovered they lacked the structural support needed for regional badminton-specific requirements, leading the team to adopt a decoupled approach using Elementor Pro for design and CPT UI plus ACF for underlying data structure. This separation of concerns gave the platform the flexibility to grow features independently of its visual layer.
Membership Infrastructure Planning
Planned how MemberPress could be combined with custom code to support both individual and club-level subscription pathways, each with its own fee structure and renewal cycle. This planning phase ensured the membership system could handle two distinct types of members without duplicating logic across the platform.
