Front Door Fashion is a premium personal-styling and Style Box e-commerce platform for women, delivering complete, stylist-curated outfits directly to the customer's front door. Founded in 2013, the service pairs each client with a professional human stylist rather than an algorithm, preserving a genuine styling relationship at scale rather than reducing the experience to a product filter.
A customer creates an account, completes a detailed Style Profile, and requests a Style Box; their assigned stylist reaches out personally, then curates 4–6 complete looks with detailed styling notes on how to mix and match. The client tries everything on at home, keeps only what she loves within a 5-business-day window, and returns the rest — free shipping both ways, no styling or membership fees, with a refundable $100 deposit applied toward the purchase. Local clients can alternatively book an in-studio Style Session.

The Issue At Hand
Research showed the market was split between fully automated subscription boxes and traditional in-person personal shopping. The differentiator, and the core requirement, was preserving a genuine human stylist relationship at scale, meaning the platform had to be designed around a stylist-client workflow rather than a standard product catalog.
The billing model surfaced as the most unusual technical challenge: customers aren't charged upfront for products, only for what they keep after a trial period, requiring a deferred authorization-based payment flow and a refundable $100 deposit rather than a standard cart checkout.
Trust and friction reducers proved critical to the funnel, with no fees, free return shipping, and a 5-day at-home try-on needing clear communication across every page, while two distinct fulfillment paths — a nationwide Style Box and a local in-studio Style Session — had to coexist without confusing the customer journey.
The billing model charges customers only for kept items after a trial window, requiring deferred/authorization-based payment logic rather than a standard e-commerce checkout
The Style Profile needed to be rich enough to brief a real human stylist, not just filter products by SKU
Two distinct fulfillment paths, a nationwide Style Box and a local in-studio Style Session, had to coexist within the same account and booking system
Trust-critical messaging around no fees, free two-way shipping, and the 5-business-day trial had to be communicated consistently across the entire funnel
A standalone shop catalog needed to run alongside the curated box workflow without the two commerce paths colliding at checkout
Design was finalized during development without an upfront Figma/PSD handoff, requiring close iterative alignment with the client at each milestone
Stylist-side tools were needed to curate 4–6 looks per box and attach detailed, readable styling notes for each client
Our Collaboration
Phase 1

Phase 2
Build
Phase 3
Deliver

The project began by researching the personal-styling market to isolate what made Front Door Fashion different from both automated subscription boxes and traditional personal shopping, then defined the unusual deposit-and-keep billing mechanic before any build work started.
Key Activities
Competitive Market Analysis
Studied the gap between algorithm-driven subscription boxes and traditional personal shopping to define the platform's human-stylist positioning.
Deferred Billing Model Design
Mapped the refundable $100 deposit, 5-business-day trial window, and keep-or-return charge logic ahead of any payment integration work.
Style Profile Content Planning
Designed a multi-step questionnaire rich enough to brief a real stylist on sizes, fit, preferences, budget, and lifestyle.
Dual Fulfillment Path Mapping
Planned how the nationwide Style Box workflow and the local in-studio Style Session booking would coexist within one account system.

They nailed the deferred billing model, deposit, trial window, keep-or-return, that's not a standard checkout flow but it works flawlessly. The Style Profile and shop catalog run smoothly side by side. Really understood our brand and delivered a premium result.
