CVKOM is a web-based CV and resume-building platform built to take job seekers from a blank page to a print-ready, ATS-friendly resume in minutes. Built module by module around a guided workflow, the platform replaces the trial-and-error of formatting a resume in a word processor with a curated template library, real-time preview, and an AI writing assistant that generates and refines content as the user builds.
The platform features a library of ready-made, ATS-optimized templates, an OpenAI-powered content assistant for summaries, experience, and skills, PDF import with automatic form-filling, a smart video/QR CV for modern differentiation, a paid-template marketplace with promo codes and integrated payments, and full right-to-left (RTL) and Arabic-language support, all built on Flask with a MySQL backend and deployed on Azure/IIS.

The Issue At Hand
Traditional CV creation was slow, inconsistent, and inaccessible to non-designers, leaving job seekers with weak content and poorly formatted documents that struggled to pass ATS filters or reflect regional (RTL/Arabic) hiring norms.
There was no assistance for writing strong summaries, experience descriptions, or relevant skills, and no easy way to reuse an existing resume, forcing users to rebuild their CV from scratch for every new application.
The absence of multi-CV account management, payment-gated premium designs, and true right-to-left layout support left the platform unable to serve professional users managing several targeted resumes or Arabic-speaking job seekers at all.
Non-designers struggled to produce well-formatted, ATS-friendly documents with no guided, template-driven workflow available
Weak, generic resume content with no assistance for writing summaries, experience descriptions, or relevant skills
No easy way to reuse an existing resume, requiring users to rebuild their CV from scratch every time
No support for managing multiple, versioned CVs under a single account, or generating print-quality, payment-gated premium designs
Lack of regional accessibility, with no full right-to-left (RTL) layout or multilingual support for Arabic-speaking users
No modern differentiation tools, like a video introduction or scannable QR link, available to help a candidate's resume stand out

Phase 1 — Discover
We found that the main competitor gap was content quality, not layout, so AI content assistance was prioritized as a core feature. We also identified that reliable HTML/CSS-to-PDF rendering was the biggest technical risk and evaluated multiple engines to guarantee consistent output across every template and language direction.
Key Activities
Content-Quality Gap Analysis
Identified that competitors were winning on layout alone, making AI-assisted content generation a core, non-optional feature rather than a nice-to-have add-on.
Normalized Data Schema
Designed a Document-to-many-section schema so templates and user data stayed cleanly decoupled and reusable across an unlimited number of saved CVs per account.
PDF Rendering Engine Evaluation
Benchmarked WeasyPrint and pdfkit/wkhtmltopdf to de-risk reliable, print-accurate PDF generation from HTML/CSS, including RTL text rendering.
RTL-First & Payment Planning
Treated RTL/Arabic support as a first-class design requirement and planned secure payment and promo-code logic for the template marketplace from day one.
Competitive Feature Audit
Benchmarked leading resume builders on template count, AI assistance depth, and export quality to scope a feature set that could compete on content, not just design volume.
